Kolumba Museum, Cologne – Annual exhibition “1919 49 69ff. Departure”
12. December 2019“Inside Rembrandt. 1606 – 1669” Cologne, Wallraf Richartz Museum. Until 01.03.2020
15. January 2020Christmas and its meaning, the anticipation, the glamour and the lights, but also the yearly consumer frenzy is discussed year after year. Probably everything has been said about it here and there. Especially, since each and every one of us certainly has a very personal attitude to this topic. In short, I don’t want to get lost in musing here.
We don to send Christmas greetings by mail to our customers, and there are no presents. We give the money for this every year to a “good cause”. And there, it is – also with regard to the much-cited sustainability – in our opinion much more sensibly invested than in greeting cards and even more small things that nobody really needs and that at best end up in some drawer. And that would probably not be in the sense of “Reduce” from the three “Big R’s” of “Reduce, Reuse, Recycle” and our idea of sustainability and ecological responsibility.
We are very pleased that these topics are also close to the hearts of our guests. And that you will not only feel being “on the road”, but on the contrary, feel a little bit like at home. Together with you, we have once again this year ensured over 50 t less CO2 and a good 8,000 l less residual waste with our activities such as heading for “Zero Waste”, the use of completely renewable energies, clever solutions for washing, cleaning and laundry, but also for IT or our building services.
There is a flood of lyrics, songs and poems every year at Christmas and New Year’s Eve. From contemplative to instructive, from pious to cheerful, or from sugary to tender. We ourselves are not quite so good at writing poetry, but we have found a beautiful poem. We would like to send it to you, and hope that you like it. Have fun reading it.
When does Christmas start?
When the weak forgive the strong for their weakness,
when the strong love the strength of the weak,
when the have-something share with the have-nothing,
when the loud stays with the silent one,
and understands what the silent one wants to tell him,
when the quiet becomes loud and the loud becomes silent,
when the meaningful is meaningless,
the seemingly unimportant important and big,
when in the middle of the dark a tiny light
promises safety, bright life,
and you don’t hesitate, you go,
the way you are,
then, yes, then
starts Christmas. </block quota>
