Chicken “on the sunny side” of life
27. September 2019Utopia and doom. Art in the GDR. Exhibition at the Kunstpalast Düsseldorf until Jan 05, 2020
25. November 2019Even more art?
The Rhineland certainly doesn’t lack art. Cologne and Düsseldorf have a lot to offer here. From “really ancient” to “ultra-modern” everything is there. In excellent quality. With top-class museums, extensive collections and strong exhibitions, a multitude of galleries and many more artists, not to mention a highly renowned art academy, your personal art calendar can be filled well. Trade fairs, above all the mighty Art Cologne in spring, are definitely already “top of it all”. A massive program. There is something for every taste. Three years ago, Art Düsseldorf was added as a trade fair. After a somewhat bumpy start as the successor to the Cologne Art Fair, which had come a long way towards its end, the Art Düsseldorf has meanwhile established itself as a thoroughly interesting autumn event. And it is now entering its third round.
Art Duesseldorf. Who is there
The Art Düsseldorf presents itself with a compact program of international art, with renowned big names and “long-established” galleries, as well as with newcomers. The focus is on contemporary art. Big names can be found here as well as “new” artists who will be presented for the first time on such a fair platform. Also from new galleries created after 2008, the year of the Lehman Brothers bankruptcy. The bankruptcy of the investment bank Lehman Brothers had also shaken the international art market. Above all, the highly speculative contemporary market had collapsed. And countless galleries were also suddenly faced with ruin.
It is important for the fair organizers to support the “new” ones that were founded after this big crash with reduced stand rents. The department of these “new” galleries is no longer called “Post Lehman”, but “Next Generation – rsvp”. And this new, future-oriented title corresponds much better to the concept than the label “Post Lehman”, which recalls the gloom of the Lehman bankruptcy. Lucas Hirsch, TALION GALLERY, SPERLING, DREI, Galerie Tobias Nahring, Carbon 12, Weiss Berlin, SVETLANA GALLERY, Damien & The Love Guru as well as Lars Kristian Bode are the “new” ones this year. Partly brand new, partly already “on stage” in Duesseldorf last year.
Art Duesseldorf. Why you should go there
A mix of regional and European positions will be shown at Art Duesseldorf. In addition, it will be international with around 10% exhibitors from the USA and Asia. So there is a lot to see and a lot to discover. Around a hundred exhibitors will be presenting themselves in compact form in the Boehler Hallen, a former steelworks site. Art in a charming industrial ambience. And even with daylight, which not only highly experienced regular trade fair visitors will certainly appreciate.
The fair is an ideal destination for weekend excursions. For all those who are curious about new art. A kind of shop window stroll through the current art landscape. The budget ranges from “priceless” to “hm. I could possibly think about it”. And you can definitely take a look. Quite analogously, if you like. Without instagram, if you want. Clearly structured, with a multitude of impressions, good discussions and competent exhibitors. A whole range of different positions, on foot.
For the second year in a row, we are delighted to welcome a group of art-loving collectors from Belgium, who have included the Art Düsseldorf autumn excursion to the Rhineland in their art calendar. By the way, in connection with a visit to the unique museum island Hombroich. And who actually travel quite comfortably from us into art. In sneakers, for a relaxed stroll across the fair grounds. By tram U76, three stops, just 5 minutes from door to door.
