Via Meerbusch… to Santiago. A German Pilgrim’s way of St. James
20. August 2020Thomas Ruff work exhibition. In the Düsseldorf K20. Until 07.02.2020
9. October 2020What is the light like in a studio? What does it smell like there? Of fresh paint, varnish, glue, wood or plaster? Is it completely empty and very tidy, or conversely an exuberant collection of all kinds of different things? Which tools are available? How long does a picture dry? There is certainly more than one answer to all this and much more. In fact, at least one hundred and ninety-seven answers. Just as many as there are Kunstpunkte 2020. And probably many more.
“The artist is present”
At least 197 Kunstpunkte 2020 will open their doors over the next two weekends. Old familiar ones and brand new ones. Düsseldorf artists invite to their studios. They show their work and tell what they do. Numerous off-spaces are added, exhibition spaces which are run directly by artists. The dense programme of Kunstpunkte 2020 leads through all genres and genres. Painting and drawing, graphics and photography. Sculpture, object art and ceramics. Installation, media art or performance. The list is certainly not complete. And the event is certainly a very special opportunity to experience art. Because in any case, the motto is: “The artist is present”. You are invited to experience art at the place where art is created, to ask questions, and not only to get in touch with the respective artistic work, but also directly and individually with its creator. Immediate first-hand information. What could be more direct?
Totally new art. With old tradition
The Düsseldorf “Open Studios” already have a long tradition and this year they are taking place for the 24th time. Almost a quarter of a century. That alone is remarkable, and even more remarkable is certainly that the artists will stick to the event Kunstpunkte 2020 this year as well. Respecting corona safety rules, of course, with the familiar special conditions with the necessary distance and hygiene. The very comfortable shuttle bus service will therefore unfortunately have to be cancelled. But: the event Kunstpunkte 2020 will take place. And this is key. By the way: not only analogue, but also virtual. New this year is “Kunstpunkte-Instagram”. Here artists present themselves in their studios and give background information on their work.
The off-spaces will already open on Friday evening before the Kunstpunkte 2020 weekends at 19:00. Also this time as a special: the Hall of Fame.
On to the “art universe”!
As usual, there is a detailed flyer with all names and addresses. The programme of Kunstüunkte 2020 will take place on the first weekend (12./13.09.) in the north of Düsseldorf. On the following weekend (19./20.09.) it is the turn of the south. The Düsseldorf cultural office writes quite poetically about the “Düsseldorf art sky”. And indeed, the graphic on the title reminds of a starry sky. And the individual points are divided into a northern and southern firmament. You do not necessarily need a compass for your expedition, but comfortable running shoes are certainly recommended. Why don’t you make your way into the art universe and… reach for the stars! Have fun!
