You don’t need a jute bag to travel sustainably.
14. March 2019You don’t need a thick sweater to heat your house climate neutrally.
28. March 2019You don’t need mate tea for a sustainable breakfast.
You don’t need mate tea to have a sustainable breakfast. But of course, you could drink mate tea for breakfast.
The classic mate tea is considered as one of the healthiest hot drinks on our planet. Especially since the early days of the strict eco-hardliners, between health food store, jute bag and Birkenstock sandal, to quote some of the clichés. Strictly speaking, mate tea is not a „real tea” in the classical sense, but a bitter infusion. It had a real boom not least because of its stimulating effect in the 70s and 80s, especially since it has a very exotic appeal.
The leaves of the mate shrub are poured with almost boiling hot water and drunk over a straw with a sieve – the bombilla. Of course, you can still buy it in many shops today, including supermarkets, not only in health food shops and one-world shops. Unlike in South America, where there they have even kettles with a special temperature setting for “mate tea”, so that it does not become too bitter when brewed, as an invigorating drink Mate tea is certainly not a “breakfast standard” in our latitudes. Unlike coffee or tea, to name two breakfast “classics” to start the day with.
Have breakfast like an emperor
“Breakfast like an emperor, lunch like a king, dinner like a beggar.” This is an old proverb that chronobiologists still like to refer to today. Well, science still does not quite agree whether there should be three, four or five meals. And not only the meal times promote a healthy rhythm, the amount of food also plays an important role. Whatever the outcome, there is no doubt that the quality of food plays an important role in our well-being and health.
In fact, for many people breakfast is a key meal to the day. Because this meal breaks the nightly fasting, as already the English expression “breakfast” aptly reveals. Whether you like to have a sumptuous breakfast or prefer to take the day and the food in a slow mood, that varies from person to person. But no matter what type each and every one of us belongs to, for all of us the quality of the food we eat should really be worth a second look. And that’s where sustainability comes in.
Delicious breakfast with responsibility. “Zero Waste”
The fact that we offer high-quality and sustainably produced food for our breakfast is definitely key for us. At our buffet, we offer a good selection of high-quality and sustainably produced organic products.
We always use fresh ingredients and prepare freshly served dishes according to our guests’ wishes. Convenience products or additives do not come into our pot or pan. Wherever possible, we prefer regional suppliers and seasonal products. All our products are free of genetic manipulation. A few examples:
- Our varied bread selection. Wheat, rye, spelt, oats. With pumpkin or sunflower seeds. With raisins. Sweet or savoury. Always delicious. Always with guarantee of origin. Completely traceable. From seed to basket. Organic with certificate.
- Milk and dairy products. Organic milk, organic yoghurt, organic quark. From the “Transparent Dairy”, which likes to invite you to look over the shoulder of their organic dairy farmers.
- Our fruit yoghurts and herb quark are always freshly homemade and portioned in jars.
- Jams and fruit spreads, homemade from fresh and untreated seasonal ingredients. Homemade applesauce. Gently and sustainably produced, and of course homemade with love.
- Coffee specialities. Only fair-trade organic coffee comes into our cups.
- Our honey? We only use fair trade honey or honey from a local beekeeper.
- And the eggs for the freshly prepared eggs according to your wishes? From happy hens, which you can also visit on a local farm.
“Zero waste”, no garbage, no waste.
And, of course, we don’t have any single portion packages for breakfast. Not at your table, not at the buffet, and not in the kitchen. Because these small single portion packs, which can be found at many (too many!) hotel buffets, unfortunately provide garbage in rough quantities: Jam, sugar, milk for the coffee, honey or chocolate cream, cream cheese, butter or margarine, lemon for the tea, or sweetener. That’s where many wrapping materials come together. And that is, at least we think, not necessary at all. Quite the opposite. Convince yourself! Enjoy your meal!
